The Center for Expressive Technologies will be a leader and hub in a global movement to create a new kind of innovation, which mobilizes creative technology to generate collective benefit.

What is an Expressive Technology?

CET engages with creative and visual technologies used in Hollywood and Silicon Valley, many of which might be considered 'new' or 'emerging,' such as augmented and virtual realities, motion capture and machine learning. But technology is constantly changing and often CET engages with older, simpler technologies like photography and text.

For the Center, the ‘what ‘ is far less important than the 'why' and the ‘how.’ Expressive technologies allow us to tell stories that give us voice, help us meet our communal goals, inspire creativity and imagination that can engender empathy, help us learn from histories, promote our cultural diversity, and ultimately, build a more collective future in our technological age.
